Slash @ the L.A. Music Awards
The highlight of last night's L.A. Music Awards at the House of Blues was its finale, when Lifetime Achievement Award winner Paul Rodgers jammed with a variety of musicians including Super Session Award winner Howard Leese and Slash, who was given the MVP Award. "I really appreciate this, especially considering I was the scourge of L.A. for a long time," said Slash in his thank-you speech. He and Steve Lukather jammed with Rodgers on "Muddy Water Blues" at the end of a short set that also included "All Right Now," "Deep Blue," and "Rock and Roll Fantasy." Another notable performance was given by rockin' teen trio Beyond Control, who took the Best Independent Rock Artist award (guitarist Danny Hartwell was separately honored). Enjoying the festivities were Great White's Sean McNabb, home on a three week tour break, Lonnie Vencent of Bulletboys (now in the recording studio), and Marilyn Manson guitarist John Lowery, now tracking the new Manson album. Manson has no millennium plans, so Lowery may go to Vancouver to see the KISS concert. C.C. DeVille couldn't attend because he was in Toronto at another awards show with Len, but his Stepmothers bassist Kkrys Barrato was on hand, as was Teddy 'Zigzag,' who plays keyboards on Slash's new Snakepit record. He says it's phenomenal and will be out in the first quarter of next year, with a tour to support it in March.
