Art Imitates Life!

Super rock groups such as Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles have found second lives by getting the group back together and touring again. Pink Floyd reunited for the Live 8. Loggins & Messina reunified for the first time in decades. There are even rumors swirling about Smashing Pumpkins getting together again. So if this is the summer of the reunion, where is Guns n Roses?

Axl Rose, the rock star, band leader, songwriter and all around soul-lacerating artist has certainly seen his share of dramatic triumphs, disappointments, ecstasies and agonies. The success of GNR's "Greatest Hits" has proven that he still retains rock-god status. Axl Rose attempted a comeback in 2002, but it fizzled after he was a no-show at several planned concerts. Some rock critics wonder if bands can recapture the magic. They call it the curse of the reunited band. The curse isn't a mystery; it's about making music. Let's break the curse!

Speaking of music, I tuned in to New York City's WKTU radio station on July 15 to listen to Goumba Johnny during his '80s show and heard GNR's "Paradise City." Did you know that Johnny was on the security team back in the '80s for Guns n Roses?

CAMP FREDDY — the Los Angeles-based "jam" band consisting of ex-JANE'S ADDICTION/RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist Dave Navarro, former THE CULT touring bassist Billy Morrison (on guitar), VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Matt Sorum, and vocalist Donovan Leitch (the son of 1960s U.K. folk-rock icon Donovan) — will reportedly be making an appearance at an X Games party on Friday, August 5 at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California.
