GUNS N' ROSES: Tentative Air Date Set For VH1 Documentary + Ex-GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist IZZY STRADLIN Backs Out Of NEW YORK DOLLS Reunion Show + Greatest Hits #1 in Hungary + Weiland talks about changing song lyrics
The upcoming VH1 documentary covering the early days of GUNS N' ROSES is tentatively set to premier Sunday, June 20, 2004, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. The "Behind the Music"-style show, which will feature contributions from original members Slash (guitars) and Steven Adler (drums), will be followed by "The Making of Velvet Revolver", a behind-the-scenes look at how Slash's new band, VELVET REVOLVER (also featuring fellow ex-GNR members Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum), got constructed, from the songwriting process to the singer search and studio sessions. As previously reported, other people that are expected to contribute to the GUNS N' ROSES documentary are Tom Zutaut (former A&R executive at Geffen Records), Josh Richman (video director), Teddy Andreadis (keyboard player), Dave Navarro (JANE'S ADDICTION, ex-RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), Warren De Martini (ex-RATT), Gilby Clark (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) and Mike Clink (GNR producer).

In addition to the people listed in the above news story, Robert John and Gene Kirkland have also been interviewed for the show.

Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Izzy Stradlin has backed out of his participation in the upcoming NEW YORK DOLLS reunion show, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. Although Izzy had originally agreed to fill in for late axeman Johnny Thunders at NEW YORK DOLLS' upcoming concert at London's Meltdown Festival in June, he pulled out of the deal when he learned that plans existed for the band to do additional dates — a prospect that would have required of Stradlin to learn more of the group's catalogue and to dedicate more of his time than was willing to set aside for the collaboration.

Asked by Rolling Stone magazine last month if there were any plans for a full-blown DOLLS reunion or any sort of comeback tour beyond the June concert, singer David Johansen said, "We'll just dip in a toe and see how the water is," he says. "Let's see if it's fun."

This Monday, after seven weeks on the chart, and being at #2 for the last three weeks, Greatest Hits went to #1 official Hungarian album chart.

VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland (ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) has elaborated on an online posting in which he complained about being censored while making the group's debut album, "Contraband". Weiland told Launch Radio Networks that it was one of the roughest things he's gone through as a recording artist: "In 10 or 11 active years with STP, I have not seen, or been censored, or filtered half as much as I have been in the last three months of setting up this album. That's by corporations that are distributing and selling my record, that's by massive media corporations that play videos — that's everywhere."

According to Weiland, he was pushed to change the lyrics to the first VELVET REVOLVER single, which is called "Slither". "You know, I was told when I was editing our video that I couldn't say 'smells like poppies' in 'Slither' because it was a drug reference. 'Smells like poppies'? Poppies are a flower! But they said it was a drug reference, so I said, 'All right, I'll change the lyrics. I'll change it to 'Smells like Nazis.'"
