    TIMELINE:
    from Illusions to Democracy

    July 17th, 1993 - The last show of the "Use Your Illusion" world tour.

    June, 1994? - Gilby is fired.

    October, 1994 - Slash's Snakepit finished recording their album. The album includes songs that Slash wrote for GN'R. He's joined on the album by Dizzy, Gilby and Matt.

    December, 1994 - "Sympathy For The Devil" is released as a single. Paul Huge/Tobias plays rhythm guitar.

    February, 1995 - Slash's Snakepit releases "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" and the band goes on tour.

    August, 1996 - Neurotic Outsiders, with Duff and Matt, releases their debut album.

    October 30th, 1996 - Slash leaves GN'R. He's replaced by Robin Finck in 1997.

    Early 1997 - Rumors that Matt Sorum was replaced by Chris Vrenna (ex Nine Inch Nails). Chris was supposed to be the drummer and programmer, Moby was rumored to be the producer.

    August, 1997 - Duff quits GN'R. He's replaced by Tommy Stinson.

    Early 1998 - Josh Freese becomes the new drummer.

    Mid 1998 - It's reported that Axl is preparing to record an electronica-influenced album. Instead of depending on the work of others, he's been teaching himself how to program electronic instruments, make drum loops and play guitar. It's also said that Axl has recorded a number of demo recordings - over 300 tapes of music. Around this time, it was reported that Youth was going to produce the new album.

    Late 1998 - GN'R begin working with producer Sean Beavan. Other producers that were rumored to be part of the project were Moby, Mike Clink and Youth.

    August 1st, 1999 - Robin Finck leaves GN'R and rejoins his former group, Nine Inch Nails.

    September 9th, 1999 - A short clip of a new GN'R track called "Oh My God" appears in a trailer for the new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie End Of Days.

    November 8th, 1999 - The title "Chinese Democracy" is revealed.

    January, 2000 - Some song titles were revealed in a Rolling Stone article. ''Catcher in the Rye,'' ''I.R.S,'' ''The Blues", "Oklahoma" and ''TWAT,'' (stands for ''there was a time.'')

    Spring 2000: Producer Roy Thomas Baker is working with GN'R.

    March, 2000 - Buckethead is reported to be working with GN'R.

    March, 2000 - Josh Freese leaves GN'R. He's replaced by Brain.

    October 27th, 2000 - Buckethead and Robin Finck are officially confirmed as guitarist by management. At the same time, they announced that Bob Ezrin was the A&R man for the project

    January 1st, 2001 - The new GN'R line-up plays their first show together at the House Of Blues in Las Vegas.

    May 10th, 2001 - GN'R cancels/postpones their European summer tour.

    November, 2001 - The rescheduled European tour is cancelled.

    Early 2002: Roy Thomas Baker is fired.

    Summer 2002 - Paul Tobias is replaced by Richard Fortus.

    August, 2002 - The band plays shows in Asia and Europe.

    October, 2002 - Marco Beltrami says he provided orchestral arrangements for a few songs (Seven, Leave Me Alone, General, Thyme).

    November - December, 2002 - North American tour which ends with a riot in Philadelphia.

    July 16th, 2003: Axl plays Chinese Democracy tracks at Crazy Horse Too in Las Vegas, NV.

    Early 2004: GN'R are recording at the The Village Recording Studios in West Los Angeles, CA with producer/engineer Caram Costanzo and Pro Tools engineer Eric Cadieux.

    March 30th, 2004: A press release stating Buckethead has left the band is issued.

    September 15th, 2004: Tommy states in an interview that he expects the album being mastered in October or November.

    March, 2005: The New York Times publishes an article about Chinese Democracy. It's followed by letters to the newspaper from GN'R manager Merck Mercuriadis and Tom Zutaut.

    April, 2005: A short clip of a new GN'R track called "IRS" was leaked online.

    December, 2005: Richard Fortus says he's going back to Los Angeles to do some recording with GN'R.

    January 13, 2006: Axl attends a Korn tour launch party and talks to Rolling Stone. He mentions that they're working on 32 songs, and that 26 are nearly done. Of those, 13 are slated for the final album.

    May - July, 2006: GN'R plays shows in New York City and a full tour of Europe.

    August 31st, 2006: Axl makes an appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards and when asked about Chinese Democracy's release, he said "it is this year".

    October 18th, 2006: In a small article in Rolling Stone, a new song title is revealed. The song is called "Sorry".

    December 14th, 2006: In an open letter to the fans, Axl reveals the tentative release date of March 6th, 2007.

    January, 2007: Axl is recording in Las Vegas, NV and New York, NY. Sebastian Bach sings on a track called Sorry.

    February 21st, 2007: It's announced that recording has been finished and the album is being mixed.

    March 6th, 2007: The first tentative release date.

    July 14th, 2008: Harmonix and MTV Games announce that Rock Band 2 will feature the new track "Shackler's Revenge".

    September, 2008: It's announced that a new track called "If The World" will appear in the Body Of Lies movie premiering on October 10th in the USA.

    Roy Thomas Baker: Worked on the album until February 2002. Duff: left the band in 1997. Plays in Velvet Revolver.
    Mike Clink: Involvement uncertain. Believed to have worked briefly on the project. Chris Vrenna: (ex Nine Inch Nails drummer) Worked with the band in April 1996 (or 1997?). Didn't want to make a long term commitment. Has his own project called Tweaker.
    Moby: met Axl in 1997, but couldn't work on the album. Dave Abbruzzese: (ex Pearl Jam drummer) did get together with Axl, but won't be in GN'R.
    Youth: Rumored producer, involvement uncertain. Dave Navarro: (Jane's Addiction & ex. Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist). Plays on Oh My God
